Abstract: Kerogen in the oil shale of the amman formation ( upper cretaceous ) is mainly of two types protistoclast and phytoclast , thermal maturity of the organic matter was determined by measuring the thermal alternation index ( TAI) which ranges mainly from 1 to +1 of the bright yellow color and by vitrinite reflection ( % Ro ) which is ranging between 0.1 and 0.3 for the indigenous population both TAI and %Ro indicate highly immature organic matter .
