Abstract: Microscopic and chemical analyses were used in an attempts to find an explantaion for the different in the durability and corrosion resistance of a collection of Byzantine and islamic glass objects excavated from the archaeological site of Dohaleh in northern jordan .on the basis of the compisional analysis of those objects they were separated in to two disyinctively different groups . the byzantine glasses are characterised by thier high soda (Na2O ) ,low potas (K2O ) low magnesia (MgO) and low alumina (AL2O3) contents while the islamic glasses are charactereised by thier low soda high time , high potash , high magnesia and high alumina contents .
